About the game

Jarcadia is a cozy terrarium sim about a sealed jar, and everything that lives in it.

Layer the gravel, charcoal and soil, water it, plant it, and seal the lid. From then on nothing comes in and nothing goes out: the water, the air and the food all have to go round and round, and you watch a tiny world find its balance.

Grow ferns, herbs, succulents, carnivorous bogs and a bonsai mother tree. Dig ponds for axolotls, shrimp and fish. Bring in springtails, bees that build hives, butterflies, fireflies, day geckos and ant colonies that grow into rival kingdoms. Watch the jar glow at night. And when you feel like it: storms, fire, earthquakes, a meteor, a volcano, a black hole, or Lizardzilla.

Features

  • A sealed world that really works: water, air, food and carbon cycle on their own, and every jar finds its own balance.
  • Living plants that drink, breathe, bloom and set seed. Every seed is a little different, and bees cross them.
  • Ponds with axolotls, shrimp, fish, lilies and reeds; carnivorous bogs on wet peat; sandy deserts.
  • Bugs and animals with their own lives: springtails, isopods, bees, butterflies, fireflies, geckos, and ant kingdoms that build towns and go to war.
  • Glowing nights with fireflies, glow moss and glowing mushrooms.
  • A story told in letters, gentle at first, and a guide who lives in the jar.
  • Disasters for when you want them, from a rainstorm to Lizardzilla.
  • Hand-drawn, field-notebook look; everything is drawn by the game itself, live.

One favour: please don't spoil the secret

Jarcadia has a hidden chapter. It isn't in any menu, nobody in the game mentions it, and players find it by doing odd things in the jar. You're welcome to say that it's there, and that it's a little creepy. Please don't say what it is, what's in it, or how to find it. Finding it is the whole point.

Made by a 14-year-old

Hi, I'm Robert, and I'm proud to say I'm 14. The idea, the design, and every decision about what lives in the jar and how it should feel are mine, and I play and worked hard every version to decide what stays and what goes.

I build it myself with an AI coding assistant, which writes the code to my direction, and some of the music and the voices were made with AI tools too. The plan is to have it on Steam in November.
